What Is BBL Photorejuvenation?

BBL (BroadBand Light) therapy uses gentle, precisely calibrated pulses of light to correct sun damage, redness, and uneven pigmentation—helping you achieve smoother, more radiant skin with little to no downtime. This advanced form of IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment delivers beautiful, natural-looking results by targeting visible signs of aging and stimulating new collagen beneath the surface.

At Winter Park Plastic Surgery & Laser Center, we offer the full BBL suite—including BBL HERO™ for fast, full-face and body rejuvenation and Forever Young BBL™ for long-term skin maintenance—so we can tailor every treatment to your unique skin tone, goals, and lifestyle. Our goal is to help you restore a healthy, youthful glow that truly lasts.

Who Is a Candidate for BBL?

You may be a good candidate for BBL if you want to improve:

  • Brown spots, sun spots, or general hyperpigmentation
  • Redness, visible blood vessels, and broken capillaries
  • Rosacea or flushing
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Minor textural changes from sun exposure
  • Fine lines and dullness from sun damage
  • Discoloration on the face, neck, chest, arms, or hands

During your consultation, our team will evaluate your skin type and concerns to determine whether BBL or another skin rejuvenation treatment is the safest and most effective option for you.

Benefits of BBL

BBL treatments can enhance your skin in many ways. Benefits include:

  • A clearer, more even complexion
  • Fewer brown and red spots
  • Smoother skin texture
  • Reduction in visible redness and vascular lesions
  • Stimulation of collagen for firmer, more youthful skin
  • Minimal downtime and quick recovery after each session
  • Safe, customizable treatments for nearly all skin types
  • Results that continue to improve with ongoing maintenance

BBL not only corrects existing damage but also helps to slow the visible effects of aging—with consistent treatments keeping your skin looking radiant and refreshed year after year.

How BBL Works

BBL works by delivering pulses of broad-spectrum light into the skin. As the light penetrates the skin, it gently heats targeted pigment and vascular structures below the skin’s surface, causing discoloration and redness to fade and helping the skin look clearer and more refined. At the same time, gentle thermal energy stimulates new collagen, strengthening the skin and softening early texture changes caused by sun damage. Smart filters make it possible to switch wavelengths quickly and customize the treatment across multiple concerns, even within a single treatment session.

BBL Treatment Options

BBL offers a range of treatment options that let us refine and personalize every session—so that your results look natural and feel uniquely yours.

  • BBL Photorejuvenation: The foundation of BroadBand Light therapy, BBL Photorejuvenation targets sun damage, redness, and uneven pigmentation to restore your skin’s natural clarity. This treatment uses precise pulses of light to fade discoloration and stimulate collagen, helping you achieve a smoother, more even complexion with minimal downtime. It’s the ideal starting point for patients looking to correct visible signs of aging and revitalize their skin’s tone and texture.
  • Forever Young BBL™: Ideal for maintenance and prevention, Forever Young BBL is the perfect go-to for maintaining your best look long-term. It’s especially beneficial for maintaining results after initial correction. When used periodically as part of an ongoing skin health and anti-aging maintenance regimen, Forever Young BBL encourages continuing collagen production and slows the appearance of new sun damage or discoloration. This approach supports lasting skin health—so your complexion continues to look bright, smooth, and refreshed.
  • BBL HERO™ (High Energy Rapid Output): The most advanced evolution of BroadBand Light, BBL HERO treats the face and body faster, deeper, and more comfortably than ever before. With higher energy and advanced cooling technology, HERO delivers efficient rejuvenation for larger areas such as the neck, chest, arms, and hands. This advanced technology minimizes treatment time and the number of sessions needed, without compromising results.

Recovery and Results

Most patients notice an improvement in skin tone and clarity after just one session, with gradual enhancement as new collagen forms.

After your treatment:

  • Mild redness and warmth are common for a few hours.
  • Brown spots may temporarily darken before flaking off naturally within 7–10 days.
  • Redness and vascular areas fade over several days.
  • Makeup can usually be applied the next day.
  • Consistent SPF use and good sun care habits are essential to protect your investment and extend your results.

We typically recommend a series of three to five BBL sessions spaced a few weeks apart for the best initial correction, followed by maintenance treatments (Forever Young BBL) approximately twice per year to maintain clarity. Bear in mind that full-body rejuvenation or areas with stronger sun damage may require more sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between BBL Photorejuvenation, Forever Young BBL, and BBL HERO?

Each BBL treatment uses BroadBand Light technology but serves a unique purpose. BBL Photorejuvenation is the core corrective treatment, targeting sun damage, redness, and uneven pigmentation to restore a more even, youthful complexion. Forever Young BBL™ is designed for maintenance and prevention, helping preserve results and support collagen production with gentle, ongoing sessions. BBL HERO™ is the most advanced version, offering faster, more powerful full-face and body treatments with built-in cooling for comfort and minimal downtime. All three options can be customized to match your skin type, goals, and treatment plan—whether you’re just beginning your rejuvenation journey or maintaining your results long-term.

How many BBL treatments will I need?

Most patients begin with a series of three to five treatments spaced about three to four weeks apart. This initial treatment series helps correct visible sun damage and discoloration and promotes collagen formation for healthier skin long-term. Afterward, maintenance sessions approximately twice per year—typically, Forever Young BBL—help preserve your results and keep your skin looking bright and refreshed.

How long is a typical BBL treatment session?

A typical BBL photorejuvenation or Forever Young BBL treatment takes about an hour to perform. BBL HERO is often quicker and may take only 5 to 10 minutes per treatment area, even larger locations such as the back or chest.

Is there any downtime after BBL?

Downtime is minimal. You may experience mild redness or sensitivity immediately after treatment, similar to a light sunburn. Brown spots often darken temporarily before gently flaking off within 7 to 10 days. Most patients return to regular activities the same day and can apply makeup as early as the next day. Sun sensitivity will be higher while your skin is recovering, so it’s best to always wear sunscreen (broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher) and adopt good sun care practices to prevent new photodamage from occurring.

When will I see results from BBL?

Many patients notice clearer, more even skin within one to two weeks of their first treatment. Improvements continue with each session as discoloration fades and collagen production increases. Results often look progressively smoother, brighter, and more youthful over time.

Can I combine BBL with other treatments?

Yes. BBL works beautifully alongside other skin rejuvenation procedures, and many patients choose to combine treatments for enhanced results. Popular options include the HALO® Hybrid Fractional Laser (for deeper textural concerns), the ProFractional® Laser Peel (for fine lines, enlarged pores, or acne scars), and HydraFacialMD® (for deep cleansing, hydration, and maintenance skin care). We will design a personalized treatment plan that sequences these procedures safely and effectively, ensuring each one enhances the benefits of the others.
