You should be in good health prior to undergoing this surgery. If you are receiving treatment for any chronic health conditions, you will need to request clearance from your primary care physician. You may also need to get an EKG and basic blood work to evaluate your health in anticipation of a successful procedure and healthy recovery. You will also need to plan for adequate time off work and arrange for assistance during your recovery, especially for activities such as driving, household chores, and childcare.
Most patients can expect approximately 7 to 10 days of downtime after butt augmentation surgery before returning to non-physical work duties. Discomfort levels can vary greatly, but prescription pain medications are rarely needed after the first few days of recovery. Most importantly, patients must avoid prolonged sitting for at least 2 weeks to avoid damaging the newly implanted fat cells. When it is necessary to sit, place a cushion beneath the thighs to raise your buttocks off the seat so that you minimize pressure on the fat grafts. You will also need to sleep face down or on your side. Other restrictions regarding weightlifting and strenuous exercise will be necessary, and you may need to limit your work responsibilities and seek assistance for basic household responsibilities and childcare.
To extract the fat cells for fat grafting to the buttocks, liposuction can be performed on virtually any other area of the body. Popular treatment areas include the abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, back, and neck. The harvest site must have enough excess fat to make the fat transfer procedure possible.
Buttock augmentation scars are quite small—only a few millimeters long—and only found in the area of the body from which the fat was extracted. Wherever possible, the incisions are placed in inconspicuous locations or hidden in natural creases. Liposuction scars are generally minimal, and most scars fade significantly over time. There will be no visible scarring on the buttocks.
Buttock augmentation with fat grafting offers subtle, natural-looking enhancement with the patient’s own fat cells. This offers beautiful results as well as fat reduction in the original liposuction site. For individuals whose backsides are naturally flat or poorly defined, fat grafting to enhance the buttocks can provide truly transformative, attractive results.
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the harvest site, and the buttocks will be permanently augmented. That said, a portion of the fat cells usually do not survive the transfer process and die shortly afterward. This is taken into consideration when transferring the fat to ensure that enough fat is grafted in to account for any potential volume loss. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle and stable body weight, your results could last for many years.
Some butt augmentation results can be seen immediately. As the swelling subsides in the buttocks and some of the transferred fat cells die off, the intended results will become more and more visible. The final results can be enjoyed a few months after the procedure.
